In the heart of Tours, the Olivier Debré Centre for Contemporary Creation is a prestigious artistic space with an international reputation. The CCCOD presents about ten exhibitions each year.
Designed by the Aires Mateus brothers, the building houses 4 large spaces dedicated to contemporary art and allows the public to enjoy several exhibitions in one visit. The name of the CCCOD pays tribute to Olivier Debré, a painter of lyrical abstraction whose studios were located in Touraine.
Mediators are at the disposal of the public and each exhibition is accompanied by a personalised programme: fun workshops, guided tours, lectures and various events.
The Bookstorming bookshop and the contemporary café are open to the public.
Tours' museums open their doors to the very young with play areas and fun programming. Take part in a family investigation at the Fine Art Museum with the "Petit meurtre et monstre sacré" ("Little murder and sacred monster") trail, or unearth a mythological god during the "Cocotte défi" ("Cocotte challenge") in the former Palais des Archevêques.
At the Musée du Compagnonnage, children aged 5 and over are invited to discover the skills of the Compagnons du Devoir, thanks to specially adapted booklets and unusual activities such as Japanese paper theater and Kamishibaï, while older children enjoy a giant Cluedo game.
Budding explorers will be delighted at the Museum of Natural History. They'll learn all about the flora and fauna of the four corners of the globe as they observe naturalized animals and fossils.
A little further afield, the Musée de la Préhistoire du Grand Pressigny presents the evolution of Man and his way of life over 200,000 years. A real paradise for little archaeology apprentices, who won't be left speechless in front of the life-size mammoth, and can go back in time with initiations in Neolithic pottery or musical instrument making.
All workshops must be booked in advance.
Admission to Tours museums is included in the Tours City Pass.
Housed in a castle, the Grand-Pressigny Prehistory Museum presents the evolution of Man and his way of life over 200,000 years. Life-size reproductions of emblematic animals and humans enhance the sense of immersion in prehistory.
The museum's rich collections invite visitors to explore the social, technical and economic aspects of prehistory, with a particular focus on the phenomenon for which Touraine is best known archaeologically: the Grand-Pressigny flints.
Oyé! Oyé! Travel back in time on an immersive guided tour led by guide Noémie, who plays the role, in period costume, of the daughter of a former militiaman who left for the Crusades in the early 13th century. With her, you'll explore the former Martinopole of Tours and sweep away preconceived ideas about the place of women in medieval society. A fun, historical tour for young and old alike.
Ronsard's residence and its gardens have been restored to create an eclectic setting for family outings. Children can learn about poetry on the permanent trails "Animal Poetry", "Plume où es-tu?" and the "Super Poète" bag, as well as taking part in themed activities during the school vacations: treasure hunts, storytelling at Ronsard's house, creative rose workshops...
For the youngest visitors, a stroll through the garden is a great way to learn about plants.
