  • What is a Greeter?

A Greeter is a local resident who volunteers to show you around part of their town in a different way. From well-known spots to more off-the-beaten-track places, they’ll take you on a friendly tour of their favourite spots and share the stories that have left a lasting impression on them.

Greeters are not a substitute for professional guides; they offer a different approach, based on sharing and interaction.

Would you like to round off your experience with a tour led by a qualified guide? The Tourist Office offers a wide range of guided tours certified by the ‘City of Art and History’ scheme, available to book all year round!

Why choose the Loire Valley Greeters network?

Established in 2012 and supported by the Tours Val de Loire Tourist and Convention Bureau, the Loire Valley Greeters network brings together volunteers in Tours and the Touraine region. It is affiliated with Greeters de France and the International Greeters Association.

Our teams recruit and get to know each volunteer in Tours and the wider metropolitan area.

    Did you know?

The Greeters association was founded in New York in 1992 on the initiative of Lynn Brooks. When the movement began, she wanted to improve New York’s image – which was then perceived as unsafe and sprawling – and to showcase her city as she loved it. With the help of her network of friends, she began offering visitors free guided walks through the neighbourhoods of the ‘Big Apple’. The first Greeters organisation was born, and today the movement is present in 47 countries around the world and boasts nearly 3,500 volunteers!
